Naphthalene‐Derived Secondary Organic Aerosols Interfacial Photosensitizing Properties

نویسندگان

چکیده

We investigated the photosensitizing properties of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formed during hydroxyl radical (OH) initiated oxidation naphthalene. This SOA was injected into an flow tube and exposed to UV radiation gaseous volatile compounds or sulfur dioxide (SO2). The particles were observed grow in size by photosensitized uptake d-limonene β-pinene. In presence SO2, a production (0.2–0.3 µg m−3 h−1) sulfate at all relative humidity (RH) levels. Some also on dark, probably due peroxides. dark photochemical pathways exhibited different trends with RH, unraveling contributions from bulk surface chemistry. As naphthalene other polycyclic aromatics are important precursors urban suburban areas, these reactions likely play role formation.

Modeling organic aerosols during MILAGRO: importance of biogenic secondary organic aerosols

The meso-scale chemistry-transport model CHIMERE is used to assess our understanding of major sources and formation processes leading to a fairly large amount of organic aerosols – OA, including primary OA (POA) and secondary OA (SOA) – observed in Mexico City during the MILAGRO field project (March 2006). Chemical analyses of submicron aerosols from aerosol mass spectrometers (AMS) indicate th...

Optical properties of secondary organic aerosols generated by photooxidation of aromatic hydrocarbons

The refractive index (RI) is the fundamental characteristic that affects the optical properties of aerosols, which could be some of the most important factors influencing direct radiative forcing. The secondary organic aerosols (SOAs) generated by the photooxidation of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and m-xylene (BTEX) under low-NOx and high-NOx conditions are explored in this study. The partic...

Photolytic processing of secondary organic aerosols dissolved in cloud droplets.

The effect of UV irradiation on the molecular composition of aqueous extracts of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) was investigated. SOA was prepared by the dark reaction of ozone and d-limonene at 0.05-1 ppm precursor concentrations and collected with a particle-into-liquid sampler (PILS). The PILS extracts were photolyzed by 300-400 nm radiation for up to 24 h. Water-soluble SOA constituents we...
